Three generations of tooling turned Bar-Ilan readings and lectures into Anki decks, first with Gemini, then with Claude subagents and a skill, then with a plugin. Along the way one deck grew to 2,722 cards and an exam-practice key became gameable, and fixing both taught me to check decks with code.
I built a Claude Code plugin that researches a topic with one subagent per search backend and teaches the basics first. Then I found it had silently dropped its own search servers. This is how I built and checked it, where it still breaks, and how to install it and run your own research.
